- How do apps use beacons today?
It's all about leveraging the location context that beacons provide. Beacons allow mobile devices to "see" more of what is around them. Developers in retail, navigation, social networking, food & drink, and other categories can use beacons to engage their users with more personalized in-app experiences, automatic venue check-ins, venue visit tracking, and real-world analytics. But these are only a few examples, the possibilities are truly endless. Checkout our Use Cases page which includes some example apps to get the ideas flowing.
- Can I push my own beacon-trigger ads or coupons using BeaconsInSpace beacons?
No. As you can imagine, if we had thousands of apps pushing ad notifications every time a user entered a beacon region, the experience would be overwhelming and quite annoying. BeaconsInSpace has developed a proprietary solution that identifies unauthorized beacon-triggered advertisements using BeaconsInSpace beacons and we strictly enforce this policy. Please do not attempt to push beacon-triggered ads or coupons using BeaconsInSpace beacons, or you may be removed from the platform.
- As a developer, are beacons easy to work with?
Yes! And we have made it even easier by removing the hardware from the equation. Normally, you would have to buy hundreds of beacons and deploy them at locations that support your use case, but with our Marketplace you can instantly use existing beacons that are already deployed. Our SDK makes this process even simpler, by providing full beacon functionality in your app, and guaranteeing that you'll never miss a beacon in your app.
- Are beacons better than GPS for my app?
Whether one is better or worse is the wrong way to think about these two technologies. Rather, they can be complimentary: GPS and geofencing are great if you only need to know when a user is within a certain block radius, whereas beacons are better if you need to know with accuracy if a user is at a particular establishment or at a location inside a particular establishment.
- Do you have a REST API to gain beacon access?
Yes! We take pride in our REST API as this is what powers our platform. In just one call you get access to a network of beacons, and with one more you can obtain all the relevant place details and information about individual beacons that your user bumps in the real world. What you'll do with this beacon contextual data is only limited by your imagination!
- What data can I obtain from accessing beacons on BeaconsInSpace?
Every individual beacon on the platform has the following core data which can be retrieved with a single call: establishment, establishment type, indoor location of beacon within establishment, floor, latitude, longitude, street, city, state, zip code, country. And we've made it easy to add your own information to any beacon on the platform using Capsules.
- What do I do with the beacon place details data?
Place details can be used to associate your user base with certain establishments and locations, it can be used with nearly any other API to automate actions within your app like calling an Uber or sending a Slack notification, Twilio message, or a Tweet. Our focus is to continuously add additional data sets on top of beacons and the physical spaces where their signals reach, so we can provide you with a wide set of options when you're building your app.
- How many apps can rent a beacon at once?
An unlimited amount. There's no limit to the number of apps that can securely share a beacon at the same time.
- How do I test with my own beacons before using the ones on the Marketplace?
We've made it easy to add your own test beacons in the Test tab in Mission Control. Your test beacons will instantly be detected by your app as long as you have the BeaconsInSpace SDK installed. No additional coding required.
- Do you provide analytics on my users and beacons?
Yes. We're building more analytical features everyday like user heatmaps, visitation stats, overall beacon usage, and more! We also know that you use other popular analytics platforms for your app and that's why we make it easy to export any and all data on your users to nearly any platform you'd like, all in real-time via webhooks.
